Bee Stings Bring Hope To Arthritic Patients

Have you ever had a backache and thought the best remedy would be grabbing the nearest bee hive and running wildly so the angered bees will swarm out and sting the ache out of you? Sounds a little crazy huh? Well this new finding may prove to the bewildered neighbors of the backache victim that bee stings may be a cure for body aches; more specifically, arthritis.

Studies have shown that bee venom can control the inflammation in joints that causes rheumatoid arthritis. The venom contains molecules that can increase levels of anti-inflammatory hormones called glucocorticoids which regulate inflammation in the human body. This new discovery has given hope to many arthritis patients that believe new treatments will be developed to provide relief to the pain caused by arthritis. Treatments may also prevent the pain-inducing disease from ever developing in the body.

Apparently, this type of treatment has been used for centuries to treat rheumatoid arthritis but this is the first time there has been a scientific explanation for the effect of the venom to the human body. The use of bee stings for medicinal purposes is called Bee Sting Therapy, or Apitherapy, and has been used to treat other conditions such as asthma and multiple sclerosis. Scientist have found that not only do certain elements in the bee venom help with inflammation and pain but also cause the body to release natural healing compounds.

Although these new findings have brought much attention from the public, researchers warn that producing a clinical application could take some time.

So, while jumping into a swarm of provoked bees may help with your muscle inflammation, further investigation of the treatment and applying the antidote in a controlled environment should provide for a much better solution.
